New Horizontal Structure of Community Coach Education Courses
Historically, Community Coach Education has been a vertical, progressive pathway. You must have completed a “lesser” course before progressing up the pathway. To complete a Senior license you must have completed a Junior and Youth license involving many hours and a cost at each stage. The numbers of coaches actually progressing all the way through the pathway has been relatively small.
For this and other reasons, such as accessibility of ‘the course you want when you want it’, a horizontal structure will be launched for 2010. A coach simply has to know what age-group he or she is coaching and apply for the appropriate age-specific course.
Furthermore, the Youth and Senior courses have been divided into two parts. The content has been designed specifically so that a coach attending the first part is taught a basic understanding of how to work with his/her players. Coaches who go on and attend the second part will have a greater understanding. To gain a Licence, after attending both parts, a coach must pass an assessment. To view the new pathway click here
